Paint Protection Film vs Ceramic Coating — Which Do You Need?

PPF and ceramic coatings are both paint protection technologies, but they operate differently and protect against different threats. Understanding the distinction helps you choose the right solution — or combine both for maximum protection.

What PPF Does Best

PPF provides physical protection. Its thick urethane layer absorbs rock chips, stone impacts, door dings, and abrasive contact that would chip, scratch, or dent bare paint. No coating — regardless of hardness — can prevent a stone chip the way a film can. If physical damage protection is your primary concern, PPF is the answer.

What Ceramic Coating Does Best

Ceramic coatings provide chemical protection and extreme hydrophobicity. A cured ceramic layer dramatically repels water, resists chemical staining (bird droppings, tree sap, acid rain), and makes routine maintenance much easier. How to Care for Your Paint Protection Film

Properly maintained PPF will look great and perform at its best for its entire warranty period. The good news: PPF care is simpler than caring for bare paint. The film's hydrophobic surface and self-healing properties do much of the work for you — but a few habits will maximize your investment.

The First 48 Hours

Avoid washing your vehicle for 48 hours after installation. The film's adhesive needs time to bond fully to your paint. During this period, you may notice some haze or small water bubbles beneath the film — these are normal and will disappear as the film cures. Do not try to squeegee them out.

Ongoing Washing

  • Use pH-neutral car wash soap — avoid harsh degreasers
